Vein Ablation Therapy

Overview

Vein ablation therapy is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency by sealing off diseased veins with heat, lasers, or medical adhesives. This helps redirect blood flow to healthier veins, alleviating symptoms like pain, swelling, and heaviness.

Procedure Breakdown:

  1. Preparation:
    • The treatment area is cleaned and numbed with local anesthesia.
    • A small incision is made to access the affected vein.
  2. Vein Access:
    • A thin catheter or fiber is inserted into the vein using ultrasound guidance.
  3. Ablation Process:
    • Depending on the method used:
      • Radiofrequency or Laser Ablation: Heat energy is applied to seal the vein.
      • Medical Adhesive (e.g., cyanoacrylate glue): A special glue is used to close the vein.
      • Sclerotherapy (in some cases): A chemical solution is injected to collapse the vein.
  4. Completion:
    • The catheter is removed, and the incision is covered with a bandage.
    • No stitches are required.
  5. Recovery:
    • Patients typically wear compression stockings for a few days or weeks.
    • Normal activities can be resumed within a day, with minimal downtime.

This procedure is safe, effective, and an excellent alternative to vein stripping surgery.
